What's with LocalBitcoins and GoCoin having 88% fake Twitter followers? Seriously screwed up.

Check it out: LocalBitcoins twitter audit 11,000 fake followers and GoCoin twitter audit 45,000 fake followers
That's sketchy and dishonest as fuck in my opinion.
Why did I decide to look into this? Well when GoCoin's CEO Steve Beauregard tweeted this: https://twitter.com/GoCoinCEO/status/546380377380495360
Congrats @gawceo on the successful launch of #paycoin ... the @GoCoin and I look forward to working with you! cc: @GAWMiners @BitTreasury
I knew something was phishy the moment I found out that they were pumping a freakin scamcoin like that. Then I check out the other major bitcoin twitters and LocalBitcoins turned out really bad as well.
The twitter accounts for every other Bitcoin related company check out.
I mean I used to love GoCoin and LBC, but after I saw this shit? Boooo...
edit: Cryptocoins news with 11,000 fake followers. 48% fake. Coindesk and Cointelegraph are clean.

[OC] Which front offices and agents are the 3 major newsbreakers connected to? I went through 6000+ tweets to find out!

If this sounds somewhat familiar, that's because I did a 2019-2020 version and posted it back in March.
In terms of changes from that post:
TL;DR
Tracked tweets of Woj, Shams and Haynes from 2018-2020 to see whether any of them report on a certain team or a certain agent's players more than their counterparts. Here is the main graph concerning a reporter's percentage of tweets per team separated into three periods (2019 season, 2020 offseason, 2020 season). Here is a separate graph with the Lakers and Warriors, because Haynes's percentages would skew the first graph.

During times like the NBA trade deadline or the lifting of the NBA free-agency moratorium, it’s not uncommon to see Twitter replies to (or Reddit comments about) star reporters reference their performance relative to others.
Woj is the preeminent scoop hound, but he is also notorious for writing hit pieces on LeBron (sources say it’s been widely rumoured that the reason for these is that Woj has always been unable to place a reliable source in LeBron’s camp). On the other end of the spectrum, it has been revealed that in exchange for exclusive intel on league memos and Pistons dealings, Woj wrote puff pieces on then-GM Joe Dumars (see above Kevin Draper link). Last summer, Woj was accused of being a Clippers shill on this very discussion board for noticeably driving the Kawhi Leonard free agency conversation towards the team.
This is the reason I undertook this project: to see whether some reporters have more sources in certain teams (and certain agencies) than other reporters.
First I’ll explain the methodology, then present the data with some initial comments.

Methodology

To make this manageable on myself, I limited myself to tracking the 3 major national reporters: Shams Charania of the Athletic, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports and the aforementioned Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The time period I initially tracked for was from January 1, 2020 to the end of the regular season March, but after finding a Twitter scraping tool on GitHub called Twint, I was able to easily retrieve all tweets since September 27, 2018. However, a month ago, Twitter closed their old API endpoints, and Twint ceased to work. I used vicinitas.io but the data loading became more time-consuming. Therefore, the tweets are up to the date of October 15 2020.
How I determined information was by manually parsing text tweets by the reporter (no retweets):
Now, I didn’t take every single text tweet:
Next, I had to assign possible teams to each tweet:
With all the methodology out of the way, here’s the data! (Here’s a link to a full Google Sheet)

Teams

Here's a graph of number of tweets per team per period, with the colours denoting reporter.
On a quick glance, here's which teams saw a significant period-over-period increase in number of tweets:
And here's which teams saw decreases over a period-by-period basis:
The problem with just using number of tweets is that it's not close on totals between Haynes vs. Woj or Shams. Here's a graph showing total number of tweets in each period for all three reporters. Haynes's most reported period doesn't even stack up to the least reported period of Woj or Shams.
Instead, let's look at percentage of tweets per team per period.
Now, you'll notice that there's two teams missing from the above graph: the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers. Here's the graphs for those two teams. As you can see, they would skew the previous graph far too much. During the 2019 NBA season, 27% of Chris Haynes's qualifying tweets could be possibly linked to the Warriors, and 14% of his qualifying tweets could be possibly linked to the Lakers.

Agents

Here's the top 10 agents in terms of number of potential tweets concerning their clients.
Agent Haynes Shams Woj Total
Rich Paul 15 28 24 67
Mark Bartelstein 4 16 30 50
Jeff Schwartz 3 10 25 38
Bill Duffy 2 13 14 29
Leon Rose 1 12 15 28
Aaron Mintz 2 9 15 26
Juan Perez 5 10 8 23
Aaron Goodwin 11 8 1 20
Steven Heumann 1 6 12 19
Sam Permut 1 13 5 19
Woj has the most tweets directly connected to agents by far. It wasn't uncommon to see "Player X signs deal with Team Y, Agent Z of Agency F tells ESPN." The agents that go to Woj (and some of their top clients):
One thing I found very intriguing: 15/16 of tweets concerning an Aaron Turner client were reported on by Shams. Turner is the head of Verus Basketball, whose clients include Terry Rozier, Victor Oladipo and Kevin Knox. Shams also reported more than 50% of news relating to clients of Sam Permut of Roc Nation. Permut is the current agent of Kyrie Irving, after Irving fired Jeff Wechsler near the beginning of the 2019 offseason. Permut also reps the Morris brothers and Trey Burke.
As for Chris Haynes, he doesn't really do much agent news (at least not at the level of Woj and Shams). However, he reported more than 50% of news relating to clients of Aaron Goodwin of Goodwin Sports Management, who reps Damian Lillard and DeMar DeRozan.
Here are the top 10 free agents from Forbes, along with their agent and who I predict will be the first/only one to break the news.
Player Agent Most Likely Reporter
Anthony Davis Rich Paul Too close to call, leaning Shams
Brandon Ingram Jeff Schwartz Woj
DeMar DeRozan Aaron Goodwin Haynes
Fred VanVleet Brian Jungreis Limited data
Andre Drummond Jeff Schwartz Woj
Montrezl Harrell Rich Paul Too close to call, leaning Shams
Gordon Hayward Mark Bartelstein Woj
Danilo Gallinari Michael Tellem Woj
Bogdan Bogdanovic Alexander Raskovic, Jason Ranne Limited data, but part of Wasserman, whose players are predominantly reported on by Woj
Davis Bertans Arturs Kalnitis Limited data
Thanks for reading! As always with this type of work, human error is not completely eliminated. If you think a tweet was mistakenly removed, feel free to drop me a line and I’ll try to explain my thought process on that specific tweet! Hope y’all enjoyed the research!

BetOnline Down?

Is BetOnline down for anyone?
I just made a deposit via bitcoin because I found a bet I love, but now when I try to access the site, the page doesn't load up and I get the message "You do not have permission to view this directory or page"
This is on mobile if it makes a difference
Update: It works when I use incognito mode. Thoughts on why that is?
Update: Incognito no longer works. Their twitter said IT is working on it. That was 9 hours ago. 1 hour ago they tweeted that they have technical difficulties and hope to have it up soon. Unfortunately no ETA
Update: Comments made by others have links to A) a possible $50 free roll once the site is running, and B) a BetOnline tweet saying they are under a cyber attack. Not sure what to make of this. Hopefully bankrolls and information are secure
Update: Site is back up, but for me at least, I can only view the help page
Update: Dave Mason has tweeted that funds are safe and pending wagers will be graded. Still no ETA
5:45 PM EST Update: BOL sent out an email saying the site will likely be down throughout the weekend. The Mega Contest and Survivor Contest will exclude week 6 and continue in week 7
8:30 PM EST Update: BetOnline tweets out they have made "significant progress" in the last 24hrs. Hope to provide an ETA soon in r 10 PM EST Update: BOL tweets all funds are safe and pending wagers will be graded. " BetOnline.ag (@betonline_ag) Tweeted: We are happy to update the following commonly asked questions:
  1. All player balances and funds are 100% safe and secure
  2. All pending wagers are still valid
We are rapidly working on an overall solution and hope to have one for you ASAP."
Thank you again for your patience. https://twitter.com/betonline_ag/status/1317642756911734784?s=20
Update: BOL tweets out that they expect all services to be live at some point today
Update: BOL is back online. Not mobile as of now I believe
Edit: Thanks for the award! I don't mind posting any updates I find. I'm just a local degen anxious about when it comes online. All in this together!
Update: They sent an email out with a loyalty bonus 1) A 100% deposit bonus (I nvr take the bonus bc of the rollover) 2) $100 free bet on Bucs v Raiders spread or total. Must be more than $10 wager. A loss will be refunded but those funds will be under a 3x Rollover requirement. If the game is postponed there will be a diff game chosen for the promo in week 8 3) $25 bet pretty much easy money. Bet is for all 3 Thanksgiving day games to combine for over 9 points at even odds.
Must be sure to opt in to the promo beforehand. Check your email. Click the image and enter your acct number to opt in

Weekly update. 437 BTC were traded using LocalBitcoin last week, trading Bs. /BTC and BTC/Bs. (Bolivares, Venezuelan "official" currency, ISO VES). These 437 BTC were 1,852,000,000,000 Bs. One BTC is around 4,600,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is less 2 USD. PhD uni professor earns 4 USD monthly.

Hi guys, wanted to updated last week numbers.
This is only measured in BTC and LocalBitcoins. There are other exchanges that accept Bolivares like Binance and Airtm but I think they dont have a open API. Paxful stoped working here a few weeks ago.
And remember, two years ago 5 zeroes were deleted from the currency. So the price of the BTC would be 460,000,000,000,000 "old" Bs.
September will closed with around USD 20,000,000 (around 2000 BTC) traded with LocalBitcoin
Here are more stats https://www.usefultulips.org/combined_VES_Page.html
Monthly minimum wage is 800,000 Bs. one USD is around 440,000 Bs. So that is where the 2 USD monthly comes. These 800,000 Bs. already include a cash food bonus.
https://www.caracaschronicles.com/
Moons, tips and work by reddits have helped me so much!
Some people insist that minimum monthly wage is not real, but it is. I have relatives that are public workers and earn that. Some with studies and time working could reach 20 minimum wages according to the tables, that would be anyway under 50 USD monthly.
Private companies, well a little more. A cashier in a supermarket could earn around 50 USD monthly.
The Venezuela College of Engineers, has a table for the recomended wages. The minimum wage they propose for a engineer without any experiencie is 90,000,000 Bs. / monthly, which is around 200 USD. And... good luck finding a place that pays that
http://www.civ.net.ve/uploaded_pictures/70_d.pdf
One professor with PhD, national science award and 21 years teaching earns less than 4 USD monthly. You can see the testimony here https://twitter.com/katika48/status/1304506604147159040?s=19 (I think you have the option to trasnlate the tweet)
The average income of Venezuelan is 0.72 USD daily (2020 numbers), so we are talking around 20 USD monthly, and that is an AVERAGE with all that means.

Circles UBI is now Live!

Circles UBI is now live! Congrats to Martin Köppelmann@koeppelmann and the rest of the team after 7 years of visioning and hard work! Here are details from Martin's Twitter announcement:
Circles is an innovative UBI that can be seen as six things:
1) A voluntary basic income scheme without the need of a state
2) Fully decentralized money but fair in time and space
3) A mutual credit system where credit lines are set by default to make credit fungible
4) A p2p form of money to make money and thus ultimately the economy more human centric
5) Crypto currency that is minted only by human life time
6) The original Ripple idea combined with UBI
The core rules are simple: 1) Anyone can create an account and start minting their personal Circles. Every account (person) mints different Circles. 2) Minting starts at 8 Circles a day today. This is increased every year by 7%
3) People can trust each other - which means that they are willing to exchange their Circles 1:1
That's basically it. I will try to explain the reasoning behind all 3 from the perspective of "fair money" (again there are other ways as well to look at Circles).
The first rule is simple: Soon after Bitcoin made people see that money outside of a state is possible and that the potentially design space for money is quite large people came up with ideas: "like Bitcoin but coins are distributed equally per person".
The second rule - specifically the 7% increase per year makes sure that newly minted currency also matters in the future compared to already existing currency. (Read here how ~7% can be logically derived from a 80 year live expectancy) vit.free.fTRM/en_US/solu…
The third rule does 2 things: a) it is a fully decentralized solution to the sybil attack problem. Almost all other UBI blockchain solutions fall back to a centralized authority that decides who is human/ who can get a UBI. b) It anchors the value (the trust) of Circles...
...in human relationships. Money is in my opinion best defined (e.g. by Bernard Lietaer) as a "social contract". Circles makes that explicit and very local. The minimal viable "economy" of Circles is just a group of 3-4 friends that decides to grant each other a UBI via Circles.
Anyhow - you can read more here: joincircles.net medium.com/@ConsenSys/bas… Or a bit more technical stuff here: handbook.joincircles.net/about/whitepap…📷 Fair Money for All: Basic Income on the BlockchainFor most people money is something that just exists. In order to receive money, someone needs to be willing to spend this money on you…https://medium.com/@ConsenSys/basic-income-on-the-blockchain-fair-money-45662889077c
Here you can see the Circles p2p network growing: dashboard.circles.garden (that is Martin in the network)

Bitcoin Newcomers FAQ - Please read!

Welcome to the /Bitcoin Sticky FAQ

You've probably been hearing a lot about Bitcoin recently and are wondering what's the big deal? Most of your questions should be answered by the resources below but if you have additional questions feel free to ask them in the comments.
It all started with the release of the release of Satoshi Nakamoto's whitepaper however that will probably go over the head of most readers so we recommend the following videos for a good starting point for understanding how bitcoin works and a little about its long term potential:
Some other great resources include Lopp.net, the Princeton crypto series and James D'Angelo's Bitcoin 101 Blackboard series.
Some excellent writing on Bitcoin's value proposition and future can be found at the Satoshi Nakamoto Institute.
Some Bitcoin statistics can be found here and here. Developer resources can be found here. Peer-reviewed research papers can be found here.
Potential upcoming protocol improvements and scaling resources here and here.
The number of times Bitcoin was declared dead by the media can be found here (LOL!)

Key properties of Bitcoin

Where can I buy bitcoins?

Bitcoin.org and BuyBitcoinWorldwide.com are helpful sites for beginners. You can buy or sell any amount of bitcoin (even just a few dollars worth) and there are several easy methods to purchase bitcoin with cash, credit card or bank transfer. Some of the more popular resources are below, also check out the bitcoinity exchange resources for a larger list of options for purchases.
Here is a listing of local ATMs. If you would like your paycheck automatically converted to bitcoin use Bitwage.
Note: Bitcoins are valued at whatever market price people are willing to pay for them in balancing act of supply vs demand. Unlike traditional markets, bitcoin markets operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Preev is a useful site that that shows how much various denominations of bitcoin are worth in different currencies. Alternatively you can just Google "1 bitcoin in (your local currency)".

Securing your bitcoins

With bitcoin you can "Be your own bank" and personally secure your bitcoins OR you can use third party companies aka "Bitcoin banks" which will hold the bitcoins for you.
Note: For increased security, use Two Factor Authentication (2FA) everywhere it is offered, including email!
2FA requires a second confirmation code to access your account making it much harder for thieves to gain access. Google Authenticator and Authy are the two most popular 2FA services, download links are below. Make sure you create backups of your 2FA codes.
Google Auth Authy OTP Auth
Android Android N/A
iOS iOS iOS

Watch out for scams

As mentioned above, Bitcoin is decentralized, which by definition means there is no official website or Twitter handle or spokesperson or CEO. However, all money attracts thieves. This combination unfortunately results in scammers running official sounding names or pretending to be an authority on YouTube or social media. Many scammers throughout the years have claimed to be the inventor of Bitcoin. Websites like bitcoin(dot)com and the btc subreddit are active scams. Almost all altcoins (shitcoins) are marketed heavily with big promises but are really just designed to separate you from your bitcoin. So be careful: any resource, including all linked in this document, may in the future turn evil. Don't trust, verify. Also as they say in our community "Not your keys, not your coins".

Where can I spend bitcoins?

Check out spendabit or bitcoin directory for millions of merchant options. Also you can spend bitcoin anywhere visa is accepted with bitcoin debit cards such as the CashApp card. Some other useful site are listed below.
Store Product
Gyft Gift cards for hundreds of retailers including Amazon, Target, Walmart, Starbucks, Whole Foods, CVS, Lowes, Home Depot, iTunes, Best Buy, Sears, Kohls, eBay, GameStop, etc.

Cryptostorm, Mullvad, and PIA VPN services
Namecheap, Porkbun Domain name registration
Stampnik Discounted USPS Priority, Express, First-Class mail postage
Coinmap and AirBitz are helpful to find local businesses accepting bitcoins. A good resource for UK residents is at wheretospendbitcoins.co.uk.
There are also lots of charities which accept bitcoin donations.

Merchant Resources

There are several benefits to accepting bitcoin as a payment option if you are a merchant;
If you are interested in accepting bitcoin as a payment method, there are several options available;

Can I mine bitcoin?

Mining bitcoins can be a fun learning experience, but be aware that you will most likely operate at a loss. Newcomers are often advised to stay away from mining unless they are only interested in it as a hobby similar to folding at home. If you want to learn more about mining you can read more here. Still have mining questions? The crew at /BitcoinMining would be happy to help you out.
If you want to contribute to the bitcoin network by hosting the blockchain and propagating transactions you can run a full node using this setup guide. If you would prefer to keep it simple there are several good options. You can view the global node distribution here.

[Crosspost]I am Ryan Quinn, candidate for Iowa House District 57 AMA!

EDIT: AMA HAS CONCLUDED. Click HERE to read Ryan Quinns answers on everything from Bitcoins to Term limits to Labor laws and more. VoteDEM hosts a down-ballot Democratic candidate for an AMA every wednesday.
I am Ryan Quinn and I am a Democrat running for The Iowa Legislature in House District 57. I am a software engineer by trade but have always been passionate about politics and have volunteered on campaigns often since first going door to door with my parents canvassing in 1984. I have been a supporter of open source software throughout my career having created the SymphonyOS Linux distribution in 2004. I've worked both for local companies in web development and for global companies having first joined DigitalOcean as one of the first twenty employees and helped in it's growth to nearly 700 people when I left and now working in Developer Relations at MongoDB as a remote employee helping to build community and promote education in tech.
In 2018 I spent most weekends leading up to the election driving the Democratic candidate for this seat as she canvassed across Dubuque County. This year I was concerned as the primary season went by without a Democratic candidate stepping up and in August I reached out to friends with the county party to learn how I could help us win back this seat.
I was told that the party had not been able to find a candidate despite this district having more registered Democrats than Republicans and it having been a Democratic district prior to the current incumbent's two terms. Most candidates for public office spend months making a decision and putting things in motion but I was told that the special nomination convention would be in just two days. Having the passion and ability to seek this office and knowing the alternative would be an uncontested seat I felt compelled to step up. I spoke with my wife and kids and before the end of the week I was the nominee for Iowa House District 57.
Since kicking off my campaign in mid August I have found a great group of volunteers, found support from my friends and co-workers and benefited from the assistance of other local Democratic legislators and the county party. Starting from zero we now have over 200 yard signs out around the county, delivered a direct mail piece to all 3550 Democratic and No Party households voting absentee and placed door hangers at another 2000 homes. Without direct support from the state party or large PACs we created radio and video ads in-house which are now running on five local radio stations and on YouTube and Facebook.
While this race is an uphill battle it is winnable! District 57 includes most of Dubuque County outside the city and consists of rural areas, small towns and suburbs. With factories, farms and tourist attractions the district is a microcosm of Iowa. Registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans by a couple hundred with a large contingent of No Party voters.

PSA: You're currently accustomed to a bear market and you WILL try to sell too early

Imagine you're an astronaut going into space for the first time. You've studied for many years and know to expect zero-gravity. Perhaps you've even trained on simulators and gotten an estimation of how it might feel.
First-time astronauts invariably have the same feedback:
"Nothing could've prepared me for space. There's absolutely nothing like it."
Embarking on your first bull run is much like going into space.
You may have read about it, done some paper trading, maybe even simulated going through 2016-2017, but nothing can prepare you for the gut-wrenching, schizophrenic ride of ecstasy of having real money on the line.
Your intuition will fail you. You've grown all your life in regular gravity and have developed visual-spatial senses that work well on Earth.
When you throw an orange, you expect it to fall. When you see Bitcoin go up 15%, you expect it to flag then come back down to support.
What's most insidious is that your instincts you've developed run subconsciously directing you to make mistakes. Much like an astronaut spends a day getting acclimated to space, give yourself time and patience to get used to the new normal.
You will sell too early, thinking that on Earth, oranges don't normally travel that far. I'm here to tell you when you're going to the moon, oranges keep on going, much further than you'd expect.
The reason why veterans tell you to hodl is because it's the most effective advice helping you learn that you are weightless in space. Once Bitcoin goes on a run, the fatal mistake is pulling the ripcord too quickly. This causes you to get stuck in fiat watching day after day of losing value denominated in BTC. This is the primary cause for people fomo'ing back in higher only to get rekt when Bitcoin comes down from its local top.
If you're hodling Bitcoin, no one can tell you to get off the rocket ship. Ride it all the way to the moon with us. 10M by 2030 is my best estimation.

Discovery World gets a lifeline from its chairman... shareholders get diluted (Friday, Oct 23)

Happy Friday, Barkada --

The PSE closed up 66 points to 6345 ▲1.1%.

The PSE has had a nice little 7.5% run the past 5 trading days, let's see how the week closes out. Remember, Converge IPO is on Tuesday!
Shout-out to all the bitcoin hodlers out there. The recent run-up in price (up over US$13k today) must feel nice after Paypal announced it would incorporate crypto transactions into its payment platform (after being anti-crypto for a very very long time).
Happy weekend!

Weekly update. 437 BTC were traded using LocalBitcoin last week, trading Bs. /BTC and BTC/Bs. (Bolivares, Venezuelan "official" currency, ISO VES). These 437 BTC were 1,852,000,000,000 Bs. One BTC is around 4,600,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is less 2 USD. PhD uni professor earns 4 USD monthly.

Hi guys, wanted to updated last week numbers. You probably saw my post about the moons

Weekly update. 485 BTC were traded using LocalBitcoin last week, trading Bs. /BTC and BTC/Bs. (Bolivares, Venezuelan "official" currency, ISO VES). These 485 BTC were 1,796,000,000,000 Bs. One BTC is around 4,100,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is around 2 USD. PhD uni professor earns 4 USD monthly.

Hi, hope you are doing ok. I'm "ok" considering the situation, but it is ok.
And remember, two years ago 5 zeroes were deleted from the currency. So the price of the BTC would be 410,000,000,000,000 "old" Bs.
September keeps the trend around 500 BTC traded weekly. Usefultulips reports 14,000,000 USD traded in September so far.
The trade is only measured ONLY using LocalBitcoin, there are other exchanges like AIRTM (this one banned by the Goverment), Uphold, Binance and so on, but no open data as far as I know. Most of the Localbitcoin trades are in Bolivares (BTC to BS and BS to BTC).
